Summary: Whether you just don't want to work out or you are too upset to even lace up your running shoes, read about these 5 reasons you will be glad you ran today!
Is today just not your day? Are you tired from the work day or just sick of people in general? I know how you feel. The first thing you want to do when you get home from work is pour yourself a glass of wine and veg out on the couch with some chick flick playing on the TV. The last thing you want to do is go for a run. But you should! Why, you ask? I'll give you 5 reasons you will be glad you ran today.
A run is an instant mood lifter. There is nothing like a good run to release endorphins and make you feel instantly happier. Speaking from a runner's point of view, I am a victim of being addicted to the runner's high. After a run, I feel giddy with glee. You would think I just took a hit of crack, I'm so happy. It's the best natural high you can get!
You can't use the excuse you are too tired to go for a run anymore. Running actually increases your energy level. So it doesn't matter if you are tired before your run, you won't be tired afterwards! Need energy to make dinner for your family of five or a boost of energy to go to your in-laws' house for brunch? Go for a run beforehand!
I mean, obviously. Running is the best form of cardio out there. It lifts your heart rate, tones your body, and helps build muscle. But not the gross body builder muscle. No, thank you. But rather, it builds lean and tight muscles. Muscles help burn fat faster and more efficiently. Yes, please.
Did I mention a run will put you in a better mood? I cannot stress this enough. If your boss is stressing you out. If that coworker is annoying you to no end. If money is a little tight right now. If your mom keeps mentioning how she hates your haircut. No matter what the stressor is, take it out by going on a run! Instead of filling up the wine glass or taking a nap, (both of which are depressants and will make you feel more stressed and tired), go for a jog around the neighborhood to instantly relieve stress. it's hard to stay stressed with endorphins pumping through your body.
If you are already a runner, maybe you want to improve your technique. If you are a beginner runner, maybe you just want to start getting into shape. Whatever the reason is for your run, use the stress, anger, and all emotional tolls going on in your life for a faster, better run! Trust me, this works. I can't tell you how many times I got super lean after a break-up. So if you are mad at the world, the best way to feel better is by going for that run!
