How To Furnish Your Main Bedroom
The main (or master) bedroom is often the largest bedroom in your home, or can be just an average sized room but with the all-important en-suite. Unfortunately, many home owners spend so long decorating other rooms in the house, from living rooms, kitchens and children’s bedrooms, that the master bedroom is often forgotten about.
1. Decide what’s going to be your main focal point
Many people make the mistake of having too much going on in a room. With the master bedroom, the best idea is to just settle on one thing that will stand out first, one thing to catch the attention of whoever enters the room. You can still have plenty of eye-catching furnishings but it’s a good idea to keep one piece of furniture or furnishing as the main attraction.
2. Consider furniture and furnishings that serve a function
Your main bedroom can often be the only room in the house where you have your own space; where children and/or pets do not linger. As such, it is a good idea to furnish and decorate in a manner that suits you when you’re in the mood to relax and get away from the stresses of running a household.
3. Add symmetry to your bedside
Without a doubt, bedrooms always look nicer when they are symmetrical and the easiest way to do this is by adding bedside tables of some sort. Bedside tables not only provide a much needed base for bedside lamps, night-time glasses of water, tissues and anything else you need to put down at short notice but also provide essential storage too.
4. Use wardrobes to ensure clutter is minimised
As with most spaces in the home, master bedrooms can become cluttered with items throughout the days and weeks. Some of this will be down to people being very busy and not having time to put everything in its proper place whilst the rest is probably down to a lack of storage space. It is therefore essential you only buy furniture for your master bedroom that provides you with ample storage space.
5. Dress up the end of your bed
Very popular in master bedroom interior design is to buy furniture for the end of the bed. If you have space at the end of your bed, it is a very good idea to add something such as a linen chest or trunk, bench or chaise lounge. Make sure whatever you choose is styled nicely, as not only will this make your bedroom look more sophisticated but it will also give you more storage (in the case of linen chests/trunks). It can also be somewhere for children and yourself to sit occasionally (in the case of having a bench or chaise lounge).
