Hopefully you've checked for this before renting or purchasing your new home or apartment. Just in case, look again for any mice, rats, bats, termites, roaches, bed bugs, etc. If you have a pest problem, don't panic, there are many DIY ways to get rid of them, just go online and check. If the pest problem is major, I strongly suggest you call a professional to help you. Don't wait an extra minute, call them right away! It may be costly but trust me it's worth it. You want and deserve a clean and pest free home.
You need to also check for plumbing leaks. This should have been inspected before purchasing your home or apartment. Checking again doesn't hurt. Always keep an eye out for dripping faucets and running toilets, and check your water heater for signs of a leak. Another thing you must do when moving in is cleaning thoroughly. Disinfect and wipe down everything in your house or apartment. Before moving your kitchen and bathroom items in, make sure to wipe out and clean all the cabinets and surfaces with a non-toxic cleaner or disinfectant wipes. Before moving in furniture, it's a good idea to steam clean your carpets. You can either hire a professional carpet cleaning service or you can rent a steam cleaner and do it yourself. If you don't have carpets and instead hardwood floors, you can just mop or clean your floors thoroughly.
Getting familiar with your circuit breaker box and main water valve is very important. Whether you are married or have a partner, or if your single, it's crucial to get to know about these things in your new home. Be very careful when checking anything electrical, shut off the power on whatever your checking on before you electrocute yourself! Please be very careful! If your not sure you should do any of this hire a professional or get someone with experience to help you and and show you. I recommend you get professional help. If your not sure about anything, don't hesitate to call someone who can help you, that way you know your safe when you have a professional there to guide you.
