As the summer months roll in, there is nothing nicer than inviting a group of friends or family around to enjoy a party pr BBQ in the garden. Long summer days and warm evenings are the perfect backdrop with which to throw the perfect garden party. Here we tell you how!
Send out invitations via social media network sites such as Facebook or email, or text friends to tell them when you intend to throw the party. Make sure you tell guests that it is going to be a garden party however so that they can bring something a little warmer if they intend to stay all evening.
Get your garden looking its best! Mow the lawn, pull out those weeds and cut back any overgrown bushes. Move plants around in pots to create different spaces for your guests to relax and mingle.
Prepare all your outdoor furniture for your guest’s arrival. Make sure furniture is wiped down from the winter weather and make sure cushions are clean and presentable. This job is best left till the day before as dust and dirt can easily build back up.
Decide what you are going to be serving your guests. Are you going to go for a buffet style where guests can help themselves or will you be having a BBQ? You can always have a combination of the two, but a buffet style means you as a host can relax and guests can eat as much or as little as they like. You might also wish to set a theme for your food such as Caribbean, Indian or Oriental style.
Decide what drinks you are going to offer and if you would rather people brought their own then state so on the invite. If you want to serve cold drinks in cans or bottles, then it is a good idea to fill a large container with cold water and ice which can be left outside for guests to help themselves to a nice cold one!
Make different areas for your guests to stand to chat and relax. If it is a hot day then it is a good idea to offer shade. This can be done by using an umbrella at your table or maybe hire or buy a cheap marquee which can be set out on your patio or lawn. Check you have enough seating and again, create different areas so everyone is not in one space.
Now for the music! Music is the life and soul of any party and sets the mood as well as the ambience. Decide on your preferred theme, whether you are going to have a relaxed jazz evening, a funky salsa or Latin inspired background or maybe a variety of tunes to suit all moods. You may even wish to match your music to your food theme such as Indian, Oriental or Mexican.
If you have the time, you could use an iPod or mp3 player to create a playlist which you can leave on in the background to leave you free to party!
