Handicrafts are devices or works of art that are made completely by hand or by the use of relatively simple tools. Such goods are usually made in the traditional way of manufacturing goods. Therefore, the knowledge of the art of craft is usually passed down from one generation to another. The items made using these traditional methods of manufacturing are usually produced in smaller quantities and they often represent the culture or religious beliefs of the community that makes them. The goods are also handmade from natural materials that are found in the environment of the particular economy.

Traveling Greener in Asia

Travel Tips Traveling to Asia
We travel for many reasons – getting away to a beautiful beach, national park or wilderness area in Asia can be a real draw for tourists from polluted, grimy cities. However, if our travel practices aren't green, then we're contributing to the problems of pollution, resource use and climate change. Particularly for coastal or low-lying areas of Asia, un-green travel practices could cause obliteration – by rising sea levels – in the future. Here are a few ways you can make your travel in Asia greener.

Go for longer

Intercontinental air travel is not very green however you look at it. Flights cause carbon emissions, so consider buying carbon offsets along with your plane ticket. If your schedule allows, make your trip to Asia longer and it will be greener. Instead of flying halfway around the world to spend four or five days on the beach in Goa, India, for example, use the same flying time for a monthlong trip that takes in several regions ofthe country. Explore the noises of New Dehli, take in the beauty of the TajMahal and escape to the mountain Dharamsala monasteries as well as the beaches of Goa. This not only increases your environmental friendliness, it also increases your exposure to and, hopefully, your understanding of the wonders of Indian art, culture and its people. Use land transport – rail or public bus – to travel between areas.

Choose your wheels wisely

Where available, rental bicycles offer one of the greenest, and healthiest, modes of transport for the visitor to Asia. You'll even find guided bike tours in some regions, a great way to really take in the landscape while burning off calories. For all your travel and connections in Asia, use the greener option. Trains are usually the greenest form of transport overall, followed by buses and then cars. If you have to take a taxi or drive a rental car, make your gas-guzzling less harmful by sharing with multiple passengers.

Travel light

If your suitcase weighs almost as much as you, it's going to make your trip less green. Luggage weight increases the fuel consumption of airplanes and other modes of transport – this isn't green. Reduce the weight of your luggage every way you can. Take a fullyloaded e-reader instead of lots of heavy books; pack lightweight but dark-colored clothing that you can re-wear before washing and air-drying. If you run out of clothes, they're available – usually cheap by Western standards – across Asia.

Lighten your laundry load

Travel to Asia for Exotic Vacation Experience Unnecessary water use can really de-green your traveling. Re-use towels in your hotel to minimize energy and water use through laundry and drying. A microfiber towel is a green addition to your backpack or suitcase – it doesn't need the laundering and drying that a typical beach towel would require.

Just say no to plastic

Heavy plastic use is not green – plastic production uses limited resources and creates pollution. Discarded plastic bags and bottles are a real pollution problem in Asia and elsewhere. Limit your plastic use by refilling a water bottle with tap water from a trusted source, and take a cloth bag shopping so you can reduce plasticbag use.
These tips above may seem small and insignificant. But over time, these small steps can add up to a greener and healthier future for everyone.
