Summary: Shisha has been popular for over a 1000 years... But recent times have seen it restricted due to health concerns. Could Electronic Shisha be the answer?
The world today is more interested in being healthy while at the same time living their lifestyles as they please. Shisha is a form of product that is in the same league with tobacco. It is smoked using long pipes that are used to pull in the vapour from a mix of ingredients. The difference between shisha and tobacco, and dare I say its main attraction, is the fact that shisha comes in different flavours and therefore looks more in vogue compared to ordinary cigarettes. Recent studies across the world have shown that people smoking cigarettes are better placed than those smoking shisha. This is after researchers discovered that one puff of shisha is equivalent to smoking at least 400 cigarettes. That aside, there is a new and emergent debate between those who smoke shisha the traditional way and those who smoke electronic shisha.
Electronic shisha has been designed in much the same way as the electronic cigarette. It is made in such a way that individuals can get to enjoy the joys that come with pertaking shisha while at the same time reducing its harmful effects. That is a very difficult balance to strike and more often than not the manufacturers of the electronic shisha are forced to include some small percentage of tobacco in their electronic gadgets in order to hook the clients. Proponents of the electronic shisha point out the fact that the electronic shisha or hookah as it is popularly known is safer and reduces the health risks that individuals are exposed to. Instead of the 400% increase that the traditional hookah exposes the users to the electronic hookah uses an eliquid. This eLiquid is usually made from distilled water, some form of vegetable glycerin (USP grade) and Propylene glycol (USP grade). It also includes the natural flavours that a client may prefer. This combination is then vaporized inside an atomizer.
Ideally, the atomizer gets activated through inhalation. When an individual inhales on the device the device detects the airflow and then goes ahead to heat the element. This heat results in the creation of vapour, which is what the shisha users take in.
On the other hand, traditional shisha is made with a variety of elements that include charcoal or some sort of burning embers, water and a molasses based tobacco concoction. This is then smoked in a hookah releasing a large amount of smoke. With traditional shisha, the flavours are usually made from natural supplements such as apples, avocado, pears and mangoes. The idea is to make the individual smoking it experience the taste of the molasses based tobacco without the after effects of bad breath and such other things commonly associated with cigarettes.
All in all, the electronic shisha seems to be winning this war with regard to the health consequences. In fact, in countries like Britain, the legislature is looking into laws that may be used to govern the use of shisha and shisha bars. The tide so far seems to be flowing in the direction of electronic shishas.
